In early 1943, 11,000 Jews among those left in Berlin were working in armament factories. On 27 February, they were taken directly from their working places to assembly points and put on trains to the east. The action was executed with extreme violence and cruelty, with people taken away without being able to pick up any baggage or provisions, and with families torn apart and separated. Among those taken were also Jews in mixed marriages, who were separately concentrated at a house in Rosenstrasse . Their Aryan wives demonstrated in front of this assembly camp, defying the SS guards, until their husbands were released and returned home.
